Not only has February been a busy month at Lürssen, but also it’s seen two launches in the same week. The code-named Lürssen Project 1601 yacht floated on her lines within days of Project Luminance hitting the water.
Due to confidentiality agreements, the Germany-based builder can reveal just a few key facts about the custom yacht. Her length is 295 feet (90 meters), and styling is by Espen Øino International. Although the number of staterooms and the guest head count further remains confidential, the German interior design firm Dölker & Voges collaborated with the owner and the owner’s team for the ambience.
The Lürssen Project 1601 yacht styling stands out for aggressive, militaristic looks, with a few soft curves, too. A dove-grey paint job draws more attention to the lines as well.
Particularly interesting, the launch video reveals the numeral 1601 prominently toward the transom on both sides of the superyacht. It’s a practice common for military vessels. However, it’s also a significant hint as to who the owner likely is. Back in 2002, Lürssen launched Skat, with the numeral 9906 in the same place and style. Not coincidentally, that numeral was her project number. Furthermore, the styling of Skat and the styling of the Lürssen Project 1601 yacht are strikingly similar.
Sea trials should start in the next several weeks, with delivery occurring in the springtime.
